Your body, our life

First of all, my beloved AnnaRay, I don't think I know how to repress anxiety. There's plenty in the world to rail against without the need to cover up personal angst. I'm an equal opportunity ranter.

Second of all, why is where and how we live for the next 5, 10, 25 years so dependent on your professional success? As much as I whine about the lack of opportunity in my field here in Portland, I believe I am still capable of getting a job back East. Why does your career have to move in a straight line? I will concede that, given your ambition, our happiness is dependent on your professional success, but you never know what you're going to feel after you've popped out that second pooper. Let me remind you that since The Boy was born, you're much more likely to come home early from work.

Finally, this whole debate is over whether or not your maternity leave will interfere with your work. You think your bosses wouldn't forgive you for leaving at a crucial time and that would jeopardize any recommendations they might be called upon to make to potential future employers on your behalf. I find it interesting how you can underestimate yourself and at the same time inflate your self-worth. The paper will muddle along without you for three months, and if your taking an maternity leave at an inopportune time jeopardizes your future, I've got a lot more ranting to do about world events.

Perhaps this is a post that I should not comment on, but as a reader I am curious about one thing. I know why AnnaRay wants to wait a little bit if the second time doesn't work, but I don't know why JudyBat doesn't. From what I have read it sounds like JudyBat doesn't want to because of the reason AnnaRay does.

What am I missing?

I am not a patient person. I don't like having to wait for things when I'm ready for them, and I'm ready for Segundo to join us in the little green house in Portland. Also, I was hoping our kids would be three years apart in age, and we're getting further and further away from that. Also, I'm not getting any younger, Brother, and I don't want to be changing diapers when I'm forty. Also, the more time goes by, the more we forget about how to handle a newborn, and I don't want to have to figure it all out again from scratch.

I have to declare sisterly names for the two of you. JudyBat, I think you get Achot (though I will need some schooling on the pronunciation of that) and AnnaRay you get Sister.

Achot, I understand impatience. I relate to imaptience, and though I will not make judgement on arguments between you and Sister, I will say that I can understand why waiting for something as exciting as Segundo could get to you. As well, I understand Sister's desire to wait.

Bill Mahr recently had an HBO special titled "I'm Swiss." I'm following his lead on this one.

oh yeah, Achot, if you would prefer Hermana, Soeur, Sorella, or Schwester, I can do that too.

I'm sorry but I can't do that. It's a thing I have against the tilde.

okokok, what I mean is that I don't know how to type it. I think for now, if it's all the same to you, Achot it is.

OK - just so you know, before the alarm rang this morning, you both (AnnaRay and JudyBat) were in matching t-shirts from Victory Pig Fried Pizza in Wilkes-Barre waiting to be costumed in matching outfits by me for your upcoming opera performance at a nameless outdoor music festival. My Uncle Bob was watching The Boy. I had a hard time finding matching shoes that fit both of you, but decided on the black t-strap heels over the green loafers. Did I do right?

Could somebody be working too hard? Hmm.

Coming soon to a website near you: AnnaRay and Judybat's performance of, 'The Bunny Opera,' or 'L'opera del Coniglietto.'

I'll believe we'll both be barefoot.

Simultaneously undervaluing and overvaluing -- what fine analysis! (Whose delivery has not, I hope, landed someone in the "who asked you for sharing?!" doghouse with the pups :))
